Here is some songs from our latest release Vista Point along with 2 songs from our 1986 demo tapes note the sound quality from our demo tapes is moderate but it gives you an idea of where we started and were musically at that time.
Yawning Man was truly an organically grown band , born of best friends living in a house together sharing music, humor, and lots of time to just play in the garage. Flowing ,jamming, experimenting and stretching out.
Influenced by everything from the psychedelic to the folkloric, jazz, rock, roots punk, world music, cartoons, we took it all in.
Playing live was our therapy ,whether alone in the garage or testing our experiments on unsuspecting punkers and countless desert party goers with the help of longtime friend Dave Travis and his traveling generator the band played countless weekends on Edom hill and the iron door which were 2 hidden spots in the desert that the police had a hard time getting to. The music you hear is from one of three recording sessions from the original line up of Yawning Man. Gary Arce (guitar) ,Mario Lalli (bass), Alfredo Hernandez(drums), Larry Lalli (guitar) and Randy Reantaso (percussion and art) .While strangely we never really sought to release this music in its day. The band seemed content with playing live for the sake of playing.
The first full length Lp from Yawning Man "Rock Formations" released in 2006 would come almost 20 years after the bands organic beginnings. With Gary Arce on guitars , Alfredo Hernandez on drums and Mario Lalli on Bass .
The bands soulful cinematic sound even stronger after so many years.
Other releases from the band include the Ep "Pot Head" with the addition of fellow desert musician Billy Soredell on Bass. And the latest compilation of both Rock Formations and Pothead called "Vista Point" now available on LEXICON DEVIL desert MySpace Layouts Gallery! Create Your Own Layout Here!
we just posted some new stuff we recorded... always playing everything we can get our hands on by the inimitable desert originators. the other day we played under a bridge in a shitty part of town running off a power inverter from someone's car. it was great. you should come to richmond, it'd be great.
Despite having only seen you guys a coupla times, and being generally after "your time", Yawning Man tunes have carried me though some pretty weird times in my life. I truly hope you play the desert, or anywhere in southern California, again soon.
